In recognition of his efforts to restore a climate of peace and security in Guinea during his term as President of the ECOWAS Commission, ACP Secretary-General Dr Mohamed Ibn Chambas was elevated to the rank of Grand Officer of the National Order of Merit of the Republic of Guinea.  This title was conferred on him during an official ceremony on 8th April 2010 in the presence of a number of dignitaries, including the Prime Minister Mr Jean-Marie Doré, Foreign Minister Mr Bakary Fofana, and General Sory Doumbouya.  (Click here for Dr. Chambas' acceptance speech).

Chairman of the Committee of the ACP Committee of Ambassadors and Ambassador of Gabon, H.E Mr. Rene Makongo, on the event of the Commemoration of the 16th Anniversary of the Genocide in Rwanda that occurred in 1994, which was marked in Brussels on 7 April 2010 called on all ACP States to undertake deep reflection on the causes of the genocide and the lessons learnt so as to bolster their respective national systems in order to prevent such atrocities in the future.
